📖 原文/对话(来源:TED「My stroke of insight」改编核心段落,≥250 词)
Jill Bolte Taylor was a thirty-seven-year-old Harvard-trained neuroanatomist when she experienced a massive stroke. As a scientist who had spent her whole career studying the human brain, she woke up one December morning to find that she could no longer walk, talk, or recognize the faces of the people she loved. A hemorrhage had erupted in her left hemisphere—the part of the brain that gives us language, logic, and the feeling of being a separate “self.”
What happened next changed her life. As her left hemisphere went quiet, her right hemisphere—the seat of emotion, intuition, and spatial awareness—took over. Without the constant inner voice that judges and plans, she slipped into a vast, wordless calm. She describes floating in a spacious euphoria, where the wall between herself and the rest of the world seemed to dissolve. “I felt enormous,” she remembers, “like a genie liberated from a bottle.” For those hours, she no longer experienced life as a set of separate objects, but as one flowing, connected energy.
When her brother found her and rushed her to hospital, she had to fight, in silence, to stay conscious long enough to get help. Doctors discovered a golf-ball-sized blood clot pressing on her brain. Her recovery took eight years of patient, daily work to relearn how to walk, talk, and think in words again. But the journey left her with a rare gift: she had seen both minds from the inside. She came to believe that each of us can choose, moment by moment, whether to live from the busy, anxious left brain or the calm, compassionate right. “We are the life-force power of the universe,” she says, “with the power to choose who and how we want to be.”

What happened to her left brain? 抓「left hemisphere stopped → right took over → peace」主线。
- “A hemorrhage had erupted in her left hemisphere.”
- “I felt enormous, like a genie liberated from a bottle.”
- “We are the life-force power of the universe.”
- 脱稿复述:合上原文,用 5 句话英文讲清这个故事(who / what / how / why it matters)。
Q1:If you suddenly lost the ability to use words for a whole day, how do you think you would experience the world differently?
参考要点:less inner monologue(内心独白更少);notice colors / light / body more;feel closer to people without debating; maybe calmer but also frustrated not to express needs.
Q2:Jill says we can choose which “hemisphere” to live from. In a stressful work moment (e.g. a harsh email), how would you consciously shift to the calmer side?
参考要点:pause and breathe before replying; name the emotion (“I feel defensive”); ask “what does the right-brain, kind version of me do?”; avoid instant reply.
Q3:Do you agree that “we have the power to choose who we want to be, moment by moment”? Share one real example from your life.
参考要点:agree / disagree 都行;举例:choosing patience with a colleague instead of snapping; choosing curiosity over fear before a presentation.
sense of peace中 of 弱读成 /əv/,读作 /sens əv piːs/;like a genie中 a 弱读 /ə/。
euphoria/juːˈfɔːriə/ 的 /ɔː/ 是长元音,嘴张大、拉长;注意与hemisphere里的 /e/(短、嘴微张)区分,避免把 euphoria 读成 /juˈfɒriə/。 - 停顿与重音:长句 “I felt enormous, like a genie liberated from a bottle.” 在逗号处明显停顿;
