BBC 6 Minute English:《Who does the housework?》(谁来做家务?)——BBC Learning English 最新一期(EP 260813,2026-08-13 播出),主持人 Neil & Pippa 走访印度尼西亚罗特岛与克罗地亚的两个公益项目,探讨「无偿家务劳动」的性别分工。
BBC Learning English「6 Minute English」EP 260813《Who does the housework?》,2026-08-13 播出。
Pippa: When it comes to household chores, jobs like cleaning, washing clothes or looking after the kids, it’s often women who do most of the work. Here, two female listeners of BBC World Service programme People Fixing the World share their experiences. Do they sound familiar to you?
Listener 1: I do everything. I do all the house chores, I do the food shopping, I do all the cooking, I clean the bathroom.
Listener 2: Are the chores done equally between me and my husband? No, they’re not done equally. I do most of the chores.
Neil: I think so. My wife works part time and I work full time, so when I’m not working, I do things, and when she’s not working, she does things.
Pippa: Of course, no one enjoys cleaning the toilet or taking out the bins, but there is a serious side to the issue. Figures from UN Women suggest that every day women around the world spend three hours more than men on unpaid care and domestic work.
Mama Shilpa(印度尼西亚罗特岛社区领袖): It is expected that the tasks done in the house, like holding the child, feeding the child, washing dishes, cooking, will all be done by the mother.
Neil: On Rote, cleaning, cooking and sweeping are considered women’s work – a negative term for boring and repetitive tasks which are traditionally done by women.
Anamarija Sočo(克罗地亚 Superdads 项目): Mothers have, you know, of course, more space for their careers, or hobbies, or just simply to rest – I mean, just to take a breather. Women tend to especially appreciate men who do these kinds of chores. And when they start pulling their weight, then they jokingly say that, “Uh yeah, women tend to nag less.”

|---|---|---|---|
| chores | /tʃɔːz/ | 家务活:家里必须定期做的杂事 | ”I do all the house chores, I do the food shopping, I do all the cooking.” |
| fair share | /ˌfeə ˈʃeə/ | 应得的一份;合理的一份 | ”Do you do your fair share of household chores?“ |
| women’s work | /ˈwɪmɪnz wɜːk/ | 贬义说法:传统上被认为该由女性做的枯燥重复劳动 | ”Cleaning and cooking are considered women’s work.” |
| division of labour | /dɪˌvɪʒn əv ˈleɪbə/ | 劳动分工:不同任务由不同人群分担的组织方式 | ”Many cultures have a division of labour – different tasks done by different groups.” |
| take a breather | /ˌteɪk ə ˈbriːðə/ | (习语)歇口气,短暂休息 | ”Mothers need more space to rest – just to take a breather.” |

| nag | /næɡ/ | 唠叨,不停地抱怨催促 | ”When men start helping, women jokingly say they tend to nag less.” |
Prompt 1(90 秒):用 When it comes to… When it comes to cooking, my dad does most of the work.
Prompt 2(60 秒):用 do your fair share / pull your weight 描述一个团队场景(宿舍值日、小组作业、合租):In our group project, everyone pulled their weight except…
Prompt 3(90 秒):观点题——“Should household chores be split 50/50, or is it fine to divide them according to who has more time?”
- chores /tʃɔːz/(清辅音,舌抵上齿龈后部送气);jokingly /ˈdʒəʊkɪŋli/(浊辅音,声带振动)。
- do your fair share 中 your 弱读为 /jə/;pull your weight → /ˌpʊl jə ˈweɪt/。句中的 of, and, to, your 一律弱读。
Are the chores done equally between me and my husband? No, they’re not done equally.
“When they start pulling their weight, women tend to nag less.” —
