每日英语口语练习:2026-08-12(星期三)

科技/社会新闻片段:BBC News 报道《I was accused of using AI in my dissertation but I wrote it all myself》(我被指控论文用了 AI,但全是我自己写的)——AI 检测误报(false positive)引发的学术诚信风波:一位医学生被误判为 AI 代写,历经两次听证会才洗清。围绕「AI 检测工具是否可靠」「如何证明’人写的’」展开,是当下最有讨论度的社会议题之一。

1. 📖 原文(核心段落)

来源:BBC News(BBC Scotland,记者 Marta Leshyk,2026-08-11 发布) 原文链接:https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crelev8gw5xo 篇幅:约 280 词(摘自全文核心叙事段落)

In August last year, medical student Harrison Sharples was “shocked” to receive an academic misconduct alert saying the dissertation he had spent his summer writing had been flagged as being AI-generated. The 20-year-old University of St Andrews student could not understand how the markers had thought the work wasn’t his own. He told the BBC he hadn’t even considered using AI as he had plenty of time to complete the assignment and had enjoyed writing it.

According to the university, his dissertation on the impact of play therapy on reducing anxiety in hospitalised children was assessed by two human markers. One of them raised concerns over the potential use of AI. The marker’s notes — seen by the BBC — raise concerns about the “polished/uniform tone” of the work, noting the “consistent flawless grammar and similar sentence structure with no variation in style”. The notes also mention a “formulaic paragraph structure that follows a typical AI pattern of ‘general claim, the example/result, and conclusion’”. Other observations point to repetitive phrasing and a lack of “nuanced critique” as well as a high usage of “em” dashes, a type of punctuation thought to be favoured by AI models.

After a virtual hearing, the allegations were upheld, and his mark was capped at seven — just enough to pass. Harrison appealed, and the university accepted the appeal. At a second hearing, the panel’s questions focused on his approach to writing. This time the university decided not to uphold the allegations. “I felt so relieved,” Harrison said. AI ethics advisor Sidrah Hassan told the BBC that existing AI detection tools “are not robust and have a high error rate”. She argues that institutions should change the way students are tested: “as humans we’ll always try to find the easy way to do something.”

3. 📝 重点词汇

4. 💬 跟读练习建议

  1. 先听 ABC News 专题一遍:只做泛听,抓大意——谁、发生了什么事、结果如何。
  2. 精读原文:把三个自然段各拆成 2–3 个意群,先慢速朗读,重点处理引号内的长串修饰语(如 “consistent flawless grammar and similar sentence structure with no variation in style”)。

  1. 60 秒复述:不看原文,用 5–6 句话把 Harrison 的故事讲给「朋友」听(who / what / why / result / lesson)。
  2. 观点表达:Do you think AI-detection tools should be used to judge students’ work? 给出 2 个理由 + 1 个让步(“While it’s true that…, I still believe…”)。
  3. 换位思考:如果你是 Harrison,在听证会上会如何证明论文是自己写的?用第一人称即兴说 3 分钟。
  4. 词汇迁移:用本课 8 个词各造一个关于「工作/学习中被误解」的句子,例如 “My proposal was flagged by the review system, but I appealed and it was cleared.”

6. 📋 发音技巧提示

  1. 重音对比:misCONduct(名词,重音在第二音节)/ conDUCT 相关词族注意区分;apPEAL(动词/名词重音都在第二音节);UPhold 重音在第一音节。
  5. 意群停顿:长句 “The marker’s notes — seen by the BBC — raise concerns…” 中,两个破折号处必须停顿,这是英语插入语(parenthetical)的标准读法。
